Children's Mental Health Series author, Kristin Legault-Donkers used her personal experiences with mental illness and collaborated with a number of mental health professionals in order to write a series of educational children's books on various mental health topics including: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and ADHD.
Each book in the series has been vetted by a number of mental health care professionals and has been endorsed by a registered social worker and by two psychiatrists.
The books in the series describe the ways in which each disorder is manifested, suggest various kid-friendly coping strategies, offer suggestions of what family and friends can do to help, stress the importance of counselling and in some cases, medication, and lastly compare the mental illnesses to physical illnesses and injuries to normalize the conditions.
All in ways that children can easily understand.
The author has also partnered with a Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) teacher to develop an educational package that can be used in the classroom.
To learn more about the books and educational package, go to the "About the Books" tab.
We hope that the Children's Mental Health Series can help you, your child(ren), and your friends and family understand mental health better.
